In the first game of the World Cup final (Dec.13-17, Khanty-Mansiysk), Kamsky drew against Alexei Shirov with Black. Although Shirov did have an edge against Kamsky's Ruy Lopez Breyer variation, Kamsky's solid play did not allow him many dreams of victory.
