Four US players, Kamsky, Onischuk, Shankland and Ivanov remain in the World Cup in Khanty-Mansiysk, Russia. All four drew game 1 of their 2nd match today.
US Champion Gata Kamsky passed through the tiebreak round at the World Cup in Khanty-Mansiysk, Russia while Robson and Shulman were eliminated.
CLO columnist IM Greg Shahade's chronicles his first tournament in nearly a decade, the Manhattan Open, from his over-optimism against Parker Zhao to his determined draw vs. Shabalov.
Eric Most tied for 1st with IM Yury Lapshun at the Atlantic Open in D.C (Aug. 26-28th). Lapshun earned the first place bonus on tiebreak while Most picked up over 70 rating points.
World Cup Round two tickets have been stamped for three US players GMs Shankland, Onischuk and Ivanov. Robson, Shulman and Kamsky head to tiebreak.
GM Sam Shankland upset GM Peter Leko with Black in the first game of the World Cup. Kamsky also won, while other games were drawn. Ivanov advances to round two as Wang Hao withdrew due to health problems.
The 7th season of the US Chess League begins on Monday, Aug. 29. Competiting teams include defending champs, the New England Nor'Easters & the Saint Louis Archbishops, with GM Nakamura as headliner.

From July 6-10, one dozen of the best young US players convened in Charlotte for the 15th edition of the US Chess School. This sesson was led by GM Kaidanov and organized by IM Shahade. FM Mike Klein reports.

Saulo Torres earned a perfect score at the US Blind Championship, held in Pittsburgh from August 19-20th. Meanwhile Dan Steininger earned his second US Blind Title in a row.
IM Romanenko and GM Shabalov tied for first at the Manhattan Open. Romanenko also earned first place on tiebreak and a GM norm. 17-year-old Parker Zhao also earned an IM norm.
