    KASPAROV CHESS FOUNDATION ANNOUNCES
    2010 SERIES OF SCHOLASTIC CHAMPIONSHIPS
    Individual and Team Tournaments Planned for Greater Mid-Atlantic,
    Greater New York and Greater Chicago Areas of the United States. 

    New York, NY, Jan. 22, 2009 -- Kasparov Chess Foundation today announced its 2010 Scholastic Championships Series, spanning two-thirds of the nation.  Foundation Chairman and legendary World Champion Garry Kasparov will be signing his latest books at the New York tournament and giving encouragement to all players. 


    The Foundation is organizing these events in association with local chess organizations and State Federations in each region, including Chess Pro and University of Maryland Baltimore County in the Mid-Atlantic region, Chess Center of New York in the Greater New York area, and The Renaissance Knights in the Chicago metro area. 

    The tournaments schedule and registration is as follows: 

    Jan. 24, Greater Mid-Atlantic Scholastic Championships in Baltimore, MD;

    According to Michael Khodarkovsky, Foundation President, the tournaments are centered in the major metros in each region to accommodate both the players and their families.  "By hosting these events in the metropolitan areas, we're making them easily accessible to the widest possible range of players, while keeping it within easy reach for their families and fan base," explained Mr. Khodarkovsky.   

    "This year, we expect around 2,000 students to compete in our Scholastic Championships, many for the first time," added Mr. Khodarkovsky.
