The World Chess Hall of Fame (to open in Saint Louis on Sept. 9th) partnered with HBO to host a Saint Louis screening and reception for Bobby Fischer Against the World, a Moxie Firecracker film that will kick off HBO's Summer Documentary series on June 6th. On May 26th, hundreds of chess and film afficianados came to the historic Tivoli theater including several chess luminaries still in town from the recently concluded international matches Nakamura-Ponomariov and Robson-Finegold.

tivoli200.jpgDirector Liz Garbus appeared at the event, and participated in a panel discussion with IM John Donaldson and GM Hikaru Nakamura, moderated by CLO editor WGM Jennifer Shahade. Also in attendance were Chess Club and Scholastic Center of Saint Louis founders Jeanne and Rex Sinquefield, GM Ray Robson and CCSCSL GM-in-residence Ben Finegold.

Earlier the same week on May 24th, HBO hosted a star-studded New York City premiere (you can find Henry Kissinger, Malcolm Gladwell, Cheryl Hines and Sofia Coppola on the online photo album.) The NYC event also featured partnerships with the World Chess Hall of Fame as well as the Marshall Chess Club at Bryant Park. Look for a US Chess Scoop video on that event later this week.

Stay posted on the movie via facebook and see GM Joel Benjamin's review of the film, intertwined with his report on the Sundance Film Festival. Also add the World Chess Museum and Hall of Fame on facebook and twitter.
