Liang Golden at World Youth; Silver for Li Print E-mail

Awonder Liang earned a gold medal at the 2011 World Youth in Caldas, Novas Brazil in the Under 8 Open with 7.5/9 while Ruifeng Li took silver in the Under 10 Open with 7/9. Other high-finishing members of our squad included a number players who finished with impressive 6.5/9 scores including David Peng, who placed 7th in the Under 8 Open, Albert Lu 12th in the Under 10 Open, Kevin Wang (15th) and Varun Krishnan (14th) in the Under 14 Open and Mariya Oreshko and Agata Bykovtsev, 6th and 8th in the Under 12 Girls.

This year the top six players in each section brought home medals, including Sarah Chiang, 4th in the Girls U14; and Jeffrey Xiong, 5th in the Open Under 12. Coach and FIDE Senior Trainer Michael Khodarkovsky said, "Now we are all packing and looking forward to a long trip back home."
