American IM Larry Kaufman tied for first at the World Senior Championship ( Bad Zwischenahn, Germany, October 28-November 11) with GM Mihai Suba, and takes the official crown on tiebreak. He also earns the GM title automatically! Check out the final standings here. Larry drew his final round game against IM Alexander Zakharov which he knew in advance was enough to win on tiebreak as long as GM Wolfgang Uhlmann did not defeat GM  Miso Cebalo. Uhlmann lost, so Larry made a draw in a favorable position to clinch the GM title.

In the Senior Women's World Championship , former U.S. Women's Champion WIM Esther Epstein scored 7.5/11, just a half point shy of first place, which was won by WFM Tamara Vilerte of Latvia.  American players Albert Kapengut and Jude Acers also finished well in the Open, with 7 points each.  Check for more details on CLO soon, including thoughts from Larry after the closing ceremony.

There is a controversy related to incorrect tiebreak information posted on the official website. CLO will keep you updated if this changes any of the above, but because Larry was declared champion after round 11, it is unlikely that this will affect Larry's GM title.
