Dallas Warms Up for Big Match with 4-0 Sweep.

Magesh Panchanatan
The Dallas Destiny scored a shocking 4-0 sweep yesterday over the Baltimore Kingfishers in Round 8 of the U.S. Chess League. This was the second ever sweep in U.S. Chess League history. The first sweep was Seattle's 4-0 rout against the Tennessee Tempo. "Sweeps are highly unusual in the U.S. Chess League, because all the teams are closely matched." says commisioner Greg Shahade.

All the members of the Dallas Destiny are University of Texas at Dallas students. Their big win raises morale just in time for a massive international, intercollegiate match tomorrow. On October 20 Friday, at 2 PM EST, 16 University of Texas at Dallas chess team members will face off against 16 players at the University of Serbia. You can watch all the games live on the Internet Chess Club.

Magesh Panchanatan led the brigade last night, with a victory over fellow GM Pavel Blehm.

It is a credit to the strength of the UTD team that their 16th and final board for the Serbia match tomorrow is the current Denker Champion, Nelson Lopez. Nelson won quickie yesterday against Baltimore's Ralph Zimmer:
