South Wins Amateur Team Playoffs

Daniel Ludwig Photo Kellie Harding

by Jennifer Shahade

On March 24 on the ICC, "Four Found Fischers" from the South (Daniel Ludwig, Cory Acor, Jeffrey DeJesus and Anthony Felicione) became U.S. Amateur Team Champions. In Round 1, the South defeated "Beavis and Buttvinnik" from the East while "Repeat Offenders" prevailed against "Orange Country Chess Team."

In the final match, the South scored 2.5-1.5 against the North. "Four Found Fischers" boards one and two shined. Daniel Ludwig scored a fine positional victory while Cory Acor held on tight in a terrible looking position and managed to turn the tables.
