Texas Woman's University to host Chess Workshop - Aug. 17

July 31, 2007 - DENTON — Jerry Nash, scholastic chess director for the U.S. Chess Federation, will present a workshop on the use of chess as an instructional tool Friday, Aug. 17 at Texas Woman’s University.

 

The workshop will take place from 9 a.m. to noon in Hubbard Hall, located on

Administration Drive
on TWU’s Denton campus.  There is no charge to attend, but registration is required.  To register, call (940) 898-2211 or email sfisher@mail.twu.edu.  For more information, call (940) 898-2186 or email jwhitworth@mail.twu.edu.

 

Workshop topics include “Coordinating the Five Communities: Implementing Chess as a Teaching Tool” and “The University’s Role in Implementing Chess as a Teaching Tool.”  A demo board demonstration of the relationship of chess to math skills, critical thinking skills and character development also is scheduled.
