Tournament Format & Time Controls
9SS, 40/2, SD/1 (5 day option, Rds. 1-5, G/60).
Choice of four schedules:
Traditional: 40/2, SD/1. One round daily at 7:30pm, except rd. 9, 8/5 at 3pm.
6-Day Option: 7/31 to 8/2 at 12 noon and 7:30pm, 8/3 & 8/4 at 7:30pm, 8/5 at 3pm.
5-Day Option: 8/1 6:30pm & 9pm; 8/2 at 10-1-3:30-7:30, 8/3 & 8/4 at 7:30pm, 8/5 at 3pm.
The above schedules merge in round six.
Quick Option: Rounds 1-6 are at Game/60 and will be at 8pm daily 7/28 to 8/2.
This schedule merges in with the other schedules starting in round seven.
Rounds 7 and 8: 8/3 & 8/4 at 7:30 PM, Round 9: 8/5 at 3pm.

Half Point Byes:
Must commit before round 4. Up to three half-point byes allowed, but no half-point byes in round 9.
Zero point byes allowed in any round. You must play in round 9 or take a zero point bye in order to be
eligible for a prize.
Entry Fee:
$125 online by 6/28, $130 by mail or phone; $155 online by 7/15, $160 by mail or phone;
entry received online after 7/15 is $175, $180 on site. GMs are free.
NOTE: July Rating supplement will be used. CCA ratings used. Foreign player ratings:
100 points added to FIDE, FQE; 200+ added to most foreign national ratings; no points added to CFC.
Highest of multiple ratings generally used.

SIDE EVENTS:
Saturday: July 28. U.S. Five Minute Championship. 7 round, double swiss (14 games), white and
black with each opponent, G/5. Registration until 11:30am, first round at noon. Last year this event had 88
entries with a $40 entry fee, and a guaranteed prize fund of $2,000. This year we will return 90% of the
entry fee in prizes. Do the math! A perfect way to complement
your U.S. Open experience.
Sunday: July 29. U.S. Scholastic Open. 4-SS, G/30. Shake off the summer cobwebs and get
ready for the upcoming school year.
Monday: July 30. U.S. Open Bughouse. Teams of two play 5-SS at G/5, with 80% of entry fees
returned in cash prizes. A refined palate is required.
Monday, July 30, Tuesday, July 31, Wednesday, August 1, Thursday, August 2, Friday, August 3:
U.S. Open Quads. Nothing fancy, at G/30. Just enough to whet your appetite for the main course.
Perfect opportunity to try out a new line before the entree in the evening.
Saturday: August 4. U.S. Open Crazy Individual-Team Tournament. It's fun, and only $5 to enter, and
guaranteed the top rated players will not win!
Sunday: August 5. A day of rest. You've earned it!
