Three Americans Make Podium Finishes in 2024 FIDE World School Championship

Three Americans made podium (top-three) finishes at the 2024 FIDE World School Championship, held May 1 through 9 in Lima, Peru.

In the U-13 Open, Maxwell Yang took the gold, finishing with 7½/9 and first on tiebreaks. According to FIDE's rules for awards of direct titles, Yang has earned the FM title. Here his round seven instructive endgame over the second-place finisher, which proved decisive for the standings:

 

 

In the U-9 Open, Aayansh Guntaka finished a full point ahead of the field with an 8½/9 score. Fellow American Advik Manchanda finished in second on tiebreaks. Both Guntaka and Manchanda earned the CM title for their top-three finishes. Below is Guntaka's win over Manchanda, and Manchanda's last-round victory to secure a second-place finish.
